Choosing The Right Men Hairstyles For Your Face Shape

By Traci

Most people assume that choosing a hairstyle is simple work, but this is not altogether true. While you may be partial to several different hairstyles, not all of them will suit you based on your face shape. Moreover, you will need to consider the type of hair before opting for a particular hairstyle. Taking all of this into account can be complicated, so we have put together some top tips on what to consider when choosing the right men hairstyles for your face shape.

How To Measure The Shape Of The Face

Handsome sexy man wearing white shirt posing in luxurious interior. Men's beauty, fashion model. Hair styling. The first and probably most significant factor when choosing a hairstyle is to determine what face shape you have. The best way to do this is by measuring your face. Using a tape measure, measure the width of your forehead and your jaw; as well as the length from a cheekbone to another. Take the average number of these measurements and then compare it to a measurement from the point of your hairline to your chin – this latter measurement is the length of your face.

If the length of your face is the same as the width average, then you have a round face. If the length is approximately 1.5 times longer than the width, then you have an oval face. However, if the length is more than 1.5 times longer than the width, then you have a square face.

The Oval Face Shape

People with oval face shapes can consider themselves the luckiest of all as this face shape suits all hairstyles, both male and female. If you fall into this group you can easily choose any of the men hairstyles you want and rock them! It is, however, recommended that you avoid longer fringes because this could make the face appear round instead of oval. Try choosing a hairstyle based on the facial feature you wish to enhance and masculine features are well defined using sharper angles.

The Round Face Shape

If you have a round face, it is recommended that you opt for hairstyles using volume and sharp angles. While a buzzcut or a fringe may be the dream, you should opt for short sides with a longer top as this can help make your face appear longer than it truly is. Creating side partings in a hairstyle can also contribute to a longer shape, such is the case with Zac Efron or Chris Hemsworth.

The Square Face Shape

While the oval face shape is a lucky shape for hairstyles, the square face is considered the most fortunate shape for males as it brings masculinity to all hairstyles. Currently, most modern hairstyles suit the square face more than any other shapes; for example, the undercut used by Brad Pitt or fading as with David Beckham.

Just as the face shape is important, so is a person’s hair type and texture. Evidence from male hair styling shows that curly hair is best for angular versions of the undercut, whereas, straight and thin hair would be better suited to classic styles. Wavy and thick is the ideal because it does well with most styles, except the traditional slick back.
